Scope and Contents This collection contains the paper materials of former NHGRI Directors James Watson, Michael Gottesman and Francis Collins, created and accumulated during their respective tenures as Directors of the NHGRI (formerly the NCHGR) from 1990 to 2008. Many of the files in this collection also predate the creation of the institute, including files from the early planning meetings for what would become the Human Genome Project in the mid to late 1980s.
