Scope and Contents

Genomics and health disparieis, Francis Collins (health disparities course) - what causes health disparities, what can we do about them, how to eliminate them, what role does genetics play in health disparities.  Virtually all diseases have genetic components, so understanding that would mean better understanding and ideas how to cure/treat illnesses.  Brief explanation of DNA, genome, Human Genome Project.  New approach (haplotypes) to find genetic components of multifactorial diseases.  Discussion of genetics and race; genetic variation; Diabetes; Prostate cancer in African Americans.  How will genetics affect the practice of medicine?
