Howard Hughes Medical Institute Holiday Lectures on Science: Of Hearts and Hypertension: Blazing genetic trails - Lecture 3 - "Heartbreak: Of Mutations and Maladies" by Christine E. Seidman, M.D., 1998-12-01T00:00:00+00:00
Scope and Contents
Lecture by Christine Seidman covering: Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a sometimes fatal heart disorder that runs in families; The disease is caused by mutations in one of several genes encoding the proteins that compose the sarcomere, the contractile apparatus of muscle cells; Mice that have been engineered with mutations in genes encoding sarcomere proteins are used as models to explore how gender, exercise and environment affect heart disease
