Howard Hughes Medical Institute Holiday Lectures on Science: Of Hearts and Hypertension: Blazing genetic trails - Lecture 2 - "Telltale Genes: Charting Human Disease" by Richard P. Lifton, M.D., Ph.D., 1998-12-01T00:00:00+00:00

 Item — Box: MM-27, Object: 11
Identifier: LE0069

Scope and Contents

Lecture by Richard Lifton covering: The human genome contains approximately 100,000 genes organized into chromosomes; Different forms of genes, called alleles, arise by mutations, some of which can lead to disease, or a propensity for disease, in an individual; Many disease-causing alleles have been identified by pinpointing the location of a gene on a human chromosome, followed by molecular cloning; The identification of "disease genes" offers new diagnostic tools, and potential new approaches to treatment

Conditions Governing Access

The majority of the materials within this finding aid have been digitized by the History of Genomics team. That being said, there are several instances where materials were either damaged or were in poor condition. In these cases we cannot guarantee the availability or accessibility of all materials.

Some materials may contain sensitive information or personally identifiable information (PII), in which case we cannot guarantee full unfettered access upon request. The History of Genomics Team will work to make a determination on a case by case basis as to the access of materials.
